In Chelyabinsk, Russia a meteorite streaked across the sky and exploded causing a shock wave that smashed windows and buildings, injuring around 1,200 people.
The meteorite weighted about 10 metric tons and it broke apart 30-50km above the ground.
The energy released when it entered the atmosphere was equivalent to a few kilotons.
While in Cuba residents of a locality claimed to have seen an object that fell from the sky and exploded with a great noise, which shook the houses of the place. Witnesses described that -A very bright light that has come to have a large size, comparable with one of a bus before exploding in the sky.
Expert Marcos Rodriguez resident of the region reported that, “everything seems to indicate that it was a fireball, which is a fragment of stone and metal that enters the Earth’s atmosphere at high speed.” Experts are now examining the area looking for possible remains.
Also fragments of meteorite were found in Miami an California.
