History of Guadalajara

The city of Guadalajara was established on 3 other different places before ending where it is now the first one was in 1532 in the city now called nochistlan, zacatecas. The second settlement was in 1533 near tonala and 4 years later the village was moved to tlacotan and the spanish king charles the 5th gave the city the coat of arms it has today. After the Mixton war in 1541 the city was finally moved to Atemajac.

Records of 1542 say that by that time there were 126 people living in Guadalajara, and now (2013) it is Mexico's second most populous municipality. The Guadalajara Metropolitan Area has a population of 4,328,584.

In 1667 the villages of Mezquitan, Mexicaltzingo and Analco were added to Atemajac.

Now a days Guadalajara has been rated as the "city of the future" because of its youthful population, large number of foreign investment deals and low unemployment and thats why it is the 3rd most business friendly city in all of North America.
Guadalajara also has the second strongest economic potential of any major North American city just behind Chicago.

Guadalajara is the 10th largest city in Latin America if it comes down to population .

Just like most municipalities in Mexico it is governed by a municipal president who "rules" for 3 consecutive years.
It is divided into 5 electoral districts for the purpose of election of representatives of the city in the federal legislature. The districts are - VIII, IX, XI, XIII and XIV.
